Dr. Hauschka Rose Day Cream (Regular and Light)

It took me a while to write about Dr. Hauschka because I adore this brand so much I wanted to write about the brand as a whole. However, including all of their products would've made for a very long post so I decided I would start with my favorite product: DR. HAUSCHKA's ROSE DAY CREAM.

I'll give a brief intro about the brand as I really love it : Dr. Hauschka and Weleda (which I'll talk more in future posts since it's another favorite and I also own a lot of their products so it's hard to know where to start! ;) ) are two of my all-time favorite natural skincare brands and complete staples in my skin (face and body) care routines. They’ve been around since long before every brand and their grandmother started calling themselves organic . They ARE completely natural and have a long tradition of growing and sourcing their ingredients in an ecologically and socially sound way. Plus, their products are KICK-ASS . So really, how can you go wrong? Well, they're a bit expensive...specially Dr. Hauschka but totally worth it. They don’t claim every product is organic, which would be wrong since not all of them are, however the vast majority of their ingredients are from biodynamic or organic sources.

DR. HAUSCHKA's ROSE DAY CREAM is by far the best facial moisturizer I've ever used . Almost 4 years ago I had some horrible dry scaly patches around my eyes . It had been a harsh winter and my allergies were particularly bad so I did more eye-scratching than anyone ever should . The result were these dry patches that lasted for 2 months!! No matter what I put on them, these patches would not heal and continued to peel. I couldn't wear any makeup because everything looked gross on top of those nasty patches on skin. One day during a visit to Whole Foods (for those who are not aware, Whole Foods is a huge groceries store focusing on natural and organic food and body products) I showed the sales associate the patches around my eyes and asked for her recommendation on something that would help. She recommended DR. HAUSCHKA's ROSE DAY CREAM. I found it too expensive so I asked for a sample. In 4 days, the patches were gone!!! My skin felt super moisturized and regenerated. It was amazing and I was sold! There was still the cost issue but the results were so amazing I decided I would splurge at least until winter was over . In fact, I'd heard about Dr. Hauschka many, many years ago from a very dear friend who lives in Switzerland and is a Botanist and a specialist on biodynamic farming . Unfortunately the high prices on a student budget were the reason I dismissed the brand for so long . Never again! I'll be using Dr. Hauschka for as long and they exist and I live.

DR. HAUSCHKA's ROSE DAY CREAM is 100% natural and 30 rose flowers go into each tube . It does smell distinctly of roses so beware if that's not your cup of tea . I however am crazy about the smell of roses and this has a very natural smell (as opposed to those super strong artificial rose smells that make you nauseated!) which I find very soothing and relaxing. This moisturizer smooths out your skin making it feel very supple and soothed. It helps calm down any redness and treat irritations on your skin.

The regular rose day cream is indeed a winter moisturizer for dry skin so for those who would like a lighter, less greasy version of it, the ROSE DAY CREAM LIGHT is a great option . It's still very moisturizing so I wouldn't say it's meant for oily skin, however for dry skin like in my case, it's my number one moisturizer during the warmer months . The light version absorbs very nicely making my skin feel very supple, smoothed and hydrated, just like the regular version, but during the summer, the regular version can feel greasy, while the light version absorbs right in leaving no greasy feeling behind.

These are my 2 go-to moisturizers year round . I just oscillate between the lighter version and regular depending on the season . On Dr. Hauschka's website they claim a tube lasts about 3 months and that's just about how long they last for me with daily morning use (I skip it in the evenings).

CONS: Expensive. However, I have to stress that given the quality of the products, they ARE completely worth it. As a solution, I always look for sales on these and stock up. For example, Pharmaca (link below) has 20% off the whole brand at the moment!! Go get yours!! I've already gotten mine stock as you can see from the freshly new products in the pics above ;)

BOTTOM LINE: These two are the best facial moisturizers I've ever used. Not only are they completely kind on my skin causing no irritation at all, they actually help calm and treat any irritations caused by weather changes, allergies, bad luck! Basically, any adverse conditions I've encountered over the past several years. 100% Sensitastic approved!!

  1. I have never heard of this brand. I'm really considering making the splurge, since I've been searching for a good facial moisturizer for my very sensitive, dry skin. I tried Cetaphil, recommended by my dermatologist, but i bought the regular type and i still had a reaction. I was thinking of trying the Restoraderm. Thank you for the reviews - I'm bookmarking your blog!

    1. Thank you so much for stopping by my blog! I'm very glad you're finding it useful ☺I really cannot say enough good things about these two moisturizers. No matter what samples I try, I always go back to Dr. Hauschka even with the steep price. Do check out Pharmaca though, they still have 20% off on Dr. Hauschka!

  2. Hi Sensitastic, first of all you have a good blog here :). I have dry sensitive skin too and can't enjoy a lot of products in the market. I find your posts helpful, particularly the Dr. Hauschka product reviews and also the traveling tips.

I live in Singapore, a tropical country where it is summer all day long. But I am going to have a holiday in Korea in winter this December, I wonder if you could provide tips / advice on skin care in winter? What are the products / routines you have for harsh and dry winter time?

Thank you in advance, and keep up the good work :)

    1. Thank you for stopping by my blog Orange Rabbit ☺
I'd be happy to provide insight on a winter sensitive skin care routine. In fact, you've just inspired me to do a post on that! The weather is getting quite dry here in NYC and I've already transitioned from my summer routine to a more fall/winter one. Of the top of my head, there are a few products I can tell you I've been reaching for a lot: Almond, Argan and rose hip oil, Dr. Hauschka's soothing mask and of course Dr. Hauschka's Rose day cream regular and my Alteya Organics lip balm. There are a few other products that I'll try to review soon as they are appropriate for these colder drier months coming up. I hope you have a lovely holiday in Korea!

    2. Many thanks for your reply, Sensitastic :)

I will try to look for those types of oils, on top of the Dr. Hauschka's ones.

Looking forward to reading your post on winter care routine, perhaps you would include body care as well? I am subscribing to your blog; it is hard to find a blog that features dry sensitive skin.

Take care and keep writing :)

  3. Hi! I just found your blog. I have super sensitive skin as well. I've only been able to use dermalogica's active moist since my rosacea/ crazy reactive skin appeared. I'm definitely curious about this as I've suddenly got very dry skin. I found two other products, but they were so expensive. This seems like a nice mid-price cream. Do you know where it's mads?
